The Shooting Star Hotel is located on the northern end of the Kiwengwa
Beach, on the north-east coast of Zanzibar. It
is a 45 minutes drive from the airport and Stonetown. The small,
family-run hotel is situated on rocks 20 meters above the sea amidst
lush tropical gardens with fabulous views of the Indian
Ocean!
The ten Sea View Cottages are
spacious, en-suite rooms built in keeping with traditional Zanzibari
styles of architecture with airy, high lime-stone washed ceilings,
large windows and air-conditioning. All have traditionally 4-poster
Zanzibar beds, with beautifully dyed mosquito net canopies and matching
Tanzanian ‘vintage’ bed covers, along with coconut wood
wall mirrors and other hand-made teak wood furniture.
Four of the Sea View Cottages are set out on two
levels and are ideal for families: the ground floor
has a large air-conditioned double bedroom, shower room and separate
closet, and a staircase leads up to a twin children’s room
in the roof space, whist there is a separate wash basin area on
the upper level, the shower and toilet are shared with the ground
floor. The upper level has ceiling and table fans only.
The four Lodge Rooms are smaller
and more simply furnished some with Zanzibari beds. They have ceiling
and table fans and are also en-suite.
All rooms have wall lights, bedside lamps and electric
ceiling fans. The bathrooms are equipped with overhead showers with
hot and cold running water.

looking the existing Sea View Cottages and are
Each suite is entered through a pair of fabulous carved Zanzibari
doors, and has simple, but high quality finishes, antique furniture,
and is fully air-conditioned.
The Ground floor (60 sq m) has a huge hallway,
which will open up onto a large terraced exterior Verandah with
a private swimming pool. Shower and WC are reached from the hallway.
Extra beds can be added to enable the hall way to be made into an
additional bedroom with twin beds. There is a large walk in wardrobe
with fitted shelves and rails a fridge stocked with drinks and a
kettle. Fresh fruit is delivered daily.
The Verandah (70 sq m) and pool deck have dining
and lounging areas as well as a kitchen space so that our chefs
can prepare meals if required. The swimming pool is sculptured into
the landscape and is 8 m long x 5 m wide.
Further facilities
Located on the cliff some 20 meters above the beach,
the pool has spectacular views over the beach and
towards the coral reef and onto the Indian Ocean beyond.
The hotels' restaurant offers
a choice of 4-5 meals, varying daily. The bar has a large variety
of alcoholics, beers and South African wines.
While there is no diving school or water sports
centre, the hotel will arrange scuba diving, PADI courses, snorkelling,
fishing, boat trips and windsurfing with nearby operators at no
extra charge.
The hotel is the perfect choice for honeymooners
and travelers, who are looking for warm personalised service in
an attractive, quiet and intimate setting with a friendly
