This newish tented camp is in a private
forest reserve on the Selous Game Reserve boundary; just
outside the eastern gate. Selous Mbega camp is the sister camp to
Kilwa Seaview Resort in Kilwa
Masoko.
The camp has
12 large en-suite tents set among the foliage overlooking
the river. Each tent has three beds and a large veranda offering
pleasant though not game-filled views. Furthermore there
are 2 bandas.
The bar and
restaurant are simple but tastefully decorated, offering Swahili
and intercontinental dishes. it can cater for vegetarians and other
dietries.
Like all lodges
and camps in the Selous, Mbega Camp offers a variety of
safari options including vehicle and boat safaris
within the Selous and walking safaris in the boundary
forest reserve.
As you are
staying outside the park you only pay National Park fees when entering
on game drives; and this combined with the large rooms offers a
cheaper safari option for visiting the Selous.
Unless you
are travelling on to the Swahili
Coast we do recommend visiting one of the more traditional camps
in the Selous as the relative small price increase offers a substantially
more luxurious and authentic safari experience.
