Meaning 'haven of peace' in Arabic, Dar-es-Salaam
is a vibrant, bustling African city. Even though it is not Tanzania's
capital ; Dar is by far the largest and most developed city.
The city dates
from 1857 and has been the admministrative centre for the Zanzibari,
British and German colonial governments. Each of these has left
its architectual and atmospheric mark on the city.
The city started to grow since Tanzanian independance in 1973 almost
trebling in size.
Dar-es-Salaam,
with a population beyond 3 Million Tanzanias major city, is the
commercial hub of Tanzania, it is home to Tanzania's major
international airport, and tourist usually only pass through
the city as a springboard for excusions to Zanzibar and the beach
lodges at Ras Kutani and Lazy Lagoon.one can imagine
